Faux suede gives you the soft, velvety look of suede without the fragility — and with much easier care. Here’s what it is and how to keep it lovely.
What is faux suede?
Faux (vegan) suede is a soft microfibre or fabric material designed to mimic the napped texture of real suede, without using animal suede. It’s lightweight, warm-looking and more forgiving than the real thing.
Brush to revive the nap
Over time the surface can flatten. A soft brush (or a dedicated suede brush) in one direction lifts the nap and refreshes the look.
Spot-clean gently
Blot marks with a dry cloth first. For stubborn spots, a barely-damp cloth and gentle dabbing usually works — avoid soaking the fabric.
Protect it from the start
A fabric/suede protector spray helps repel light moisture and marks. Patch-test first, and keep the bag away from heavy rain.
Store it dry and shaped
Keep faux-suede bags stuffed to hold shape, in a breathable dust bag, away from direct sun to prevent fading.
